On Thursday 25 January BLMK ICB held an event for BLMK ICB senior leaders and community pharmacy colleagues to come together and network, to help shape community pharmacy in the BLMK ICS footprint.
Some of the key points included:
- Community Pharmacy’s role in transformation with the emphasis on the crucial role that we play in improving access and transforming primary care for BLMK residents.
- Acknowledgment of siloed working in the past and the importance of stakeholder collaboration for true integration in future ways of working.
- Highlighting some of the fantastic work happening including:
- The Community Pharmacy Independent Prescribing Pathfinder, with four community pharmacies currently taking part across BLMK.
- Access to Designated Prescribing Practitioners, matching community pharmacists with supervision to complete the Independent Prescribing Course.
- Case Studies: Sharing of Best Practice:
- Pharmacy Contraception Service-Mahesh Shah, The Mall Pharmacy, Luton.
- Hypertension Case Finding-Paras Maroo, Westbourne Pharmacy, Luton.
- Community Pharmacy Independent Prescribing Pathfinder-Alex Hill, C&H Barton ltd, Bedford.
The takeaway message:
Community pharmacy is undergoing a significant transformation and active collaboration across the system is crucial to its success. Community pharmacies are encouraged to engage in pilots and projects where possible to leverage their potential and and make their contributions count in shaping the future of community pharmacy.
